Despite the blight and deterioration of the Burchfield Trailer Park's road sign, office building, and much of the surrounding property, I'm not convinced that it has been abandoned. There's an old white Mack fire truck ("Engine 2" is painted on its side) in good condition parked near the office building. I'll explore more next time we're road tripping in the area, to see if the trailer park is still operating.
About Mack fire trucks, via Cape Cod Fire Department / Mack Fire Apparatus website:
Possibly America's most famous manufacturer of fire apparatus, Mack Trucks of Allentown, Pennsylvania began building fire trucks around 1911.
Over the years, these beautiful fire engines, bearing the trademark "Bull Dog", proved to be as tough and reliable as the saying "Built like a Mack Truck" indicates. Thousands of these classic apparatus served over the years. Mack stopped making custom apparatus in 1990 to the dismay of Mack fans.
Per the 2010 U.S. census, Gila Bend had a population of 1,922. The small town was founded in 1872 and was named for an approximately 90-degree bend in the Gila River. Bit of history - the Gila River served as a border between the United States and Mexico from 1848 until the Gadsden Purchase in 1854.
