В этом рассказе все будет показательно: и то, при каких обстоятельствах Dealey получил свое прозвище «Убийца эсминцев», и то, SS-257 «Harder» как погибла со всем экипажем. Samuel David Dealey родился 13 сентября 1906 г. в Далласе, штат Техас. Он окончил Военно-морскую академию США в июне 1930 г. и получил первое направление для прохождения службы на USS Nevada (BB-36)

Nautilus (SS 168), is shown off Mare Island Navy Yard on 3 August 1943. She had already received external toropedo tubes during a Mare Island refit, July 1941. The tube was not accessible unless the submarine surfaced.

1945, German sub (U 858) surrenders to the U.S. Navy during and is taken to the United States.
When the boat arrives four days later, USS Pillsbury (DE 133) and USS Pope (DE 134) take over the boat, place a US Navy crew on board, and remove one-half of her German crew including three of her four officers. (U 858) is later scuttled off the coast of New England during torpedo trials.

USS Triton (SSRN 586) circumnavigates the world submerged. This course was followed by USS Triton on her shakedown cruise in which she circumnavigated the globe submerged. Triton left New London, CT on 16 February 1960 and submerged that afternoon off Montauk Point, Long Island. She again surfaced off the Delaware coast on the morning of 10 May after cruising approx. 40,000 miles in 84 days under the sea.
